About
Taking photos took me with it’s assurance of constant reevaluation of what I know, how the trained consideration of light completely changes how I interact with my surrounds and the motivations that come with a desire to be logging ones experiences. As a job photography proved less fruitful in these aspects and was something that took me years to realise but that very realisation set me on my current path of reclaiming the passion that I capitalised on to turn the love of the medium into a job.
I started playing with cameras in 2009 after an injury had me scrambling for things to consume my time that weren’t physical. When a friend suggested I kill the injury-induced boredom with his camera I didn’t think of it as anything other than a simple way to reclaim 2 hours by shooting the surf I was missing. That experience had me dumping my piggy bank the following day. I was soon whiling away my evening hours crawling through old Nat Geos and works of the documentary photographers I found in there – mid 90s documentary is still my favourite imagery, probably always will be too.
Half-way through the year that I bought my camera I dropped out of Uni, skipped out on a lot of work and thanks to my freedom, mentors, privilege and my friends I was able to invest the time I needed to take to get me where I wanted to be, doing what I wanted to be doing. I fell in love with writing through the introspectionº that came with it, together I was overwhelmed by how much I got out of the pastime.
Like many, my commercial experience started shooting events (something I loathed for the most part) but the pain pushed me to greener pastures of weddings, editorial, EPK, product and sport. All of which led me towards shooting editorial & catalogues. Nowadays I split my time between shooting photos to make stuff sell, and building, running & marketing tools to sell said stuff. Only time will tell if my move towards web was a result of me never being able to make a photo website that I liked, but most of me already thinks so.
To get the basics out of the way, I’m an Australian photographer born in Newcastle in 89, residing in South East Queensland for the parts I can remember. I spent most of 2012-2016 overseas, shooting downhill skateboarding – mostly with Landyachtz, with whom I was staff photographer. Brisbane was always my base but in 2019 I moved to Vancouver, Canada to shoot and handle domestic and international e-commerce for Landyachtz. I’m still doing that and having a sweet time – if you need a website send me some info below as I operate a small agency on the side.
